Fun Facts

I love music and I sing in an a cappella group at USC. I enjoy adventuring in remote parts of the wilderness and seeing nature through hiking, camping, and backpacking! I also really value cross-cultural experiences. I grew up attending a Chinese church and I have spent 2 summers living on an American Indian Reservation in Montana, which is my favorite place in the world!

About Me

I am a junior studying Civil Engineering at the University of Southern California. Before changing my major I spent my freshman year studying architecture. I have held the position of Graphic Design Chair for several on campus organizations, and have been on the e-board of my a cappella group. I am an Alpha Lambda Delta scholar and the recipient of several academic scholarships, which allow me to attend USC. I love design and the arts as well as math and science, and it is my goal to use engineering in volunteer and non-profit work to benefit underprivileged societies across the world.

Senior year of high school I had the opportunity to tutor a girl in Algebra 1 and English. Seeing her learn to grasp material on her own and begin to succeed was very rewarding. Wanting to continue tutoring in college, I signed up to be a math mentor through the Joint Educational Project at USC. During the fall of 2013 I volunteered bi-weekly to tutor 3 high school students in Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus at a local high school.

When working with kids, I like to emphasize the importance of the learning the process, rather than just the outcome or getting the correct answer. My goal is that students would, in a sense, be able to outgrow the tutor, eventually learning to solve problems, grasp material, and write and study on their own. I like to guide students through processes and I want them to feel confident to ask me many questions about how to get to an end result and how to study well. I have learned a lot in my two and a half difficult years at USC and I would love to impart these study skills to others.
