Fun Facts

I grew up in Morocco, and went to high school in Spain and England, so I'm fluent in French and Moroccan Arabic. I've attended schools that teach the regular American system, but also have experience with the British and IB systems. I'm a big fan of stand up comedy.

About Me

My passion is mathematics: I obtained my undergraduate degree in mathematics at Reed College in Dec. 2012 (a semester early!) with a GPA of 3.62. I worked as a washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor and a grader for Multivariable Calculus at Reed. I'm now taking classes at the washington">University of Washington as I prepare my applications for graduate school, where I hope to get a PhD in Mathematics. My ultimate goal is to become a research mathematician.

I tutored students 1-on-1 at Reed College from September 2011 until I graduated in December 2012. I was eligible to teach "all tutorable math classes" at Reed, but ended up mainly washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutoring students in Real Analysis, Linear Algebra and Intro Number Theory. In addition to the 1-on-1 washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutoring, I was a washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor at the Reed College Math Center, where I helped students with Intro Calc, Multivariable Calc and Linear Algebra homework. I was also a 1-on-1 washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor for French 320: Stylistics and Composition.

I've noticed, both as a student and a washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor, that mathematics can be much more intimidating in a classroom setting than it actually needs to be. Teachers try to get through their lecture notes in a limited time frame, and don't have the time to address every issue a student has in real time; students are busy writing things down, and might miss a crucial detail in a process. I believe it's important to help students develop confidence in their mathematical abilities. As a washington/washington/seattle">seattle">tutor, I like to work through examples, talk about problems and ask the student questions to make sure the student is aware of everything that is happening.
