Fun Facts

I am a grammar nerd and a lover of word origins. I know, sounds boring, but my enthusiasm can be contagious! ( remind me to tell you about the origin of the word 'sabotage'!)
Also, I have loved dogs since I was a baby (remind me to tell you the Lassie story!)

About Me

I am currently studying my 4th language American Sign Language. It is really fascinating. I'm also working on completing a second certification in Spanish.
I've taught French and Spanish for 14 years to all ages from pre-k to adults. I've also tutored students in both languages extensively.
Having talked for so long, I have a broad base to pull from which allows me to teach to the student's strength. I like a very active session that includes games, various activities.

Experience

I have done it all, elementary Spanish, Middle School French and Spanish, High School French and Spanish levels 1 through AP, College French, and adult Spanish classes. I've taught in schools for students with mild to moderate learning differences, programs designed for dyslexic students, and college prep advanced programs. I've also talked with various methods, traditional textbooks and Total Physical response storytelling, which is fun!

Approach

I spent years teaching standard High School language, grammar heavy with everything coming straight from a textbook. Then, after attending a workshop on Total Physical response storytelling, my classroom really came to life. I also use a lot of sign language, which I found is a great aid when students struggle with large vocabulary lists.

Spanish III Tutoring

I started Spanish in college, and took levels one and two while I pursued my French degree. The subject came easily to me, as the grammar was almost identical to the French I'd been working on for years. Then I traveled extensively throughout Mexico and Guatemala several times. I love that area! I've taught Middle School and High School Spanish 1, 2, and 3.

French II Tutoring

I started French in 8th grade. In level 3, it clicked. I was able to see the patterns in the language, and the grammar came easily from then on. Through studying French vocabulary, I developed an absolute love forwards and their origins. I spent a year abroad in France and learned a lot about the culture.
